Meet the President
Hello fellow bowfishers! For those that don’t know me, my name is Tony Waltemath and I have recently been elected as the President of the Wisconsin Bowfishing Association. Like most WBA members, I am a diehard bowfisher who enjoys the competition of tournaments as much as taking a newbie out for their first fish. I was fortunate enough to have served as Lewis’s vice president last year and was able to “get my feet wet” with some of the organizational aspects of the WBA. While I am not as experience as some of our members, I am looking forward to learning even more about the day to day operations of our association and helping it grow into an even broader organization with a larger voice. With continued cooperation and support from lakes associations and other sporting groups, I feel the WBA can continue to grow.
Like most first timers, there are many things that I have yet to learn and I am sure that there are going to be some speed bumps along the way. One thing that I would like to impress upon everyone is that the WBA is a volunteer organization. The only thing that the officers, regional reps, and tournament directors receive from their hard work is the satisfaction that they have a hand in helping our organization improve and grow. With that said, if you have issues in your area, please contact your regional representative and they will be able to address the issue within our organization. While I know you can’t please everyone, I would like to keep the WBA a fun organization that represents our members effectively.
It seems like just yesterday that I was taking pictures of boats at the Castle Rock tournament with dreams of shooting fish with lights on a boat of my own. While tournaments are pretty intimidating to the newcomer, I feel that they are the best way to meet people, check out some new equipment, and pick the brains of what I feel are the best bowfishers in the country. I’ve learned more at tournaments about a wide range of topics, from fabricating a fan set-up to how to tie an arrow on, than any online internet forum. I look forward to seeing you out on the water.
